You have been fundamentally mislead about the system and how to “fix it”. It isn’t about elections. It is about the language and how you have been taught to THINK. Conservatives want to “get back to the constitution”, Libertarians want “less government”.
All of them spend countless hours and effort trying to get their people into office. It’s a waste of time. Stop thinking in terms of RED/BLUE and open your eyes to the bigger game. The inmates do not think their “leaders” are doing a good job. But it never matters, they just get more of the same.
Think about it. Whenever a “majority” of the people want something the QUO doesn’t want, then the whole idea of the “Republic” form of government is trotted out to talk about how “democracy” is just “mob rule” and we need “cooler heads” and “that’s why the people send “representatives” etc. etc.. But when a “majority” of the people do want what the QUO wants, then they crank up the Wurlitzer to talk about “the will of the people”. You can’t win. Get it?
The QUO keeps everyone constantly arguing about WHO would do a “better job”, who would be a better “leader”. Like here. Any time you spend arguing about whether Mitt Romney or Hillary or Obama or anyone else would be a “better leader” you have already fallen prey to the QUO’s primary diversionary game, because you are IN THE SYSTEM. Until you wake up to this there is no way to fix it.
